Weston Next Gen prioritises long-term technical development. Training sessions will be focused on developing the young players’ technical ability by encouraging them to become comfortable with the ball at their feet. In training and matches, players will be encouraged to retain possession of the ball and acquire various solutions to progressing the ball to the opposition goal. All players will be encouraged to be brave on the ball and not fear making a mistake, even at the risk of losing the ball or costing their team a goal. We feel that by creating players who are technically versatile and tactically aware, we allow players to progress up the football pyramid and have the tools to be able to play and enjoy the game in the long term. We want to be competitive when playing in local competitions; however, long-term development will always take priority over short-term results.
